Loved this! When we first went to Germany, many people thought I was German because of my name and the way I look and spoke to me in German All I had was high school German so I nodded a lot and replied in very basic sentences. In the end, I gave up and reverted to English.

It’s funny. I’d forgotten about this entirely, but I had a (late) teenage phase where I had developed a German accent that was convincing enough that German-speakers believed it. I had great fun ‘being’ a German exchange student in Alberta, Canada. 🇨🇦

When my 20 year old had an acting role last year that required a German accent, I couldn’t come up with anything even passable.

How strange!
